Approved | Flood-Resilient Dwelling Alterations – Brisbane

JREY, trading as Urban Planners Queensland, secured council approval for dwelling house alterations and extensions in Brisbane on behalf of Kieron Gait Architects.

The proposal was focused on improving the flood resilience of the existing dwelling through carefully considered upper-level extensions. These works reconfigure the primary living areas to the upper level, which provides approximately 0.8 metres of freeboard above the defined flood event, significantly enhancing the dwelling’s long-term resilience and safety.

No extensions were proposed at ground level, with works limited to the creation of a new entry and associated garden areas. This approach ensured flood risk was managed appropriately while maintaining the overall scale and character of the dwelling.

The development was assessed in accordance with Brisbane City Plan 2014, including compliance with the Low Density Residential Zone Code, Dwelling House Code, Sherwood–Graceville District Neighbourhood Plan Code, and relevant overlay provisions relating to flood risk, waterways and coastal hazards.
