Approved | Air Services Use – Karara
JREY, trading as Urban Planners Queensland, is pleased to confirm that development approval has been secured for a new air services use at Wickham Road, Karara.
The approval allows for the establishment of a helipad and associated hangar on an existing rural property. While the proposal was impact assessable and subject to public notification, it was considered an appropriate use within the Rural Zone, where aviation activities such as mustering, crop management and tourism are well established.
The development has been carefully located and designed to minimise environmental and operational impacts. Siting avoids flood and bushfire hazard overlays, ensuring a safe and practical outcome that respects the rural setting.
The application was assessed under the Southern Downs Regional Planning Scheme, including compliance with the Rural Zone Code, Car Parking and Loading Code, Landscaping Code, Outdoor Lighting Code, and Physical Infrastructure Code.
This approval reflects a strategic and considered approach to rural aviation uses, balancing operational needs with planning controls and environmental considerations.
