Approved | Character Dwelling Renovations – Brisbane

JREY, trading as Urban Planners Queensland, has secured development approval for alterations and extensions to an existing dwelling house within the Traditional Building Character Overlay and Flood Overlay under Brisbane City Plan 2014.

Designed by Wink and Co, the proposal enhances a post-1946 dwelling to better align with the established traditional character of the Barlow Street streetscape, while maintaining compliance with relevant planning controls.

The approved works include the rendering of existing brickwork, a minor upper-level front extension incorporating a transition from a hip to gable roof form with feature screening, and the replacement of the existing carport with an open carport featuring a rendered parapet wall and lightweight external cladding. The gable detailing has been carefully coordinated to ensure consistency between the upper level and carport elements.

These considered design interventions strengthen the relationship between the dwelling and the surrounding character streetscape, delivering a cohesive and compliant outcome within a constrained planning environment.
